Cross Section Math Definition

The cross section math definition of something, is when a cross section of a solid is the plane shape that results from cutting through the solid, often at right angles to an axis of symmetry of the solid.

In other words if we cut through a solid shape, then the cross section would be the end part (area) of the solid where we cut through the shape.
