To find the surface area of a cube

Step 1 - Find the area of one side of the cube

Step 2 - Multiply the answer by 6

Example 1: Find the surface area of a cube with length 2cm.

Solution: Area of 1 side of a cube is 2×2=4cm²

multiply this answer by 6 to give 24cm²

Example 2: Find the surface area of a cube with length 4cm.

Solution: Area of 1 side of a cube is 4×4=16cm²

multiply this answer by 6 to give 16×6=96cm²

To find the volume of a cube

Example 3: Find the volume of a cube with length 3cm

Solution: Use the formula for volume of cube : area=length×width×height

The definition of a cube is such that, all its sides are the same length. So using this definition, its width and height is also 3cm.

Therefore the solution to the area of cube = 3×3×3=27cm³

Example 4: Find the volume of a cube with length 5cm

Solution: Use the formula for volume of cube : area=length×width×height

area of cube = 5×5×5=125cm³
