Transformations Maths

We use transformations maths when we want to map one shape or space onto another area. They can be moved up, down, left or right. Or they can be moved round in a circle from a point of origin.

Also, we can map expressions or forms, usually by substitution.

Transformations are used in the study of algebra and geometry

Types of transformations include:

  • rotation This maps a shape by rotating it clockwise or anticlockwise about a point or origin.

  • Translation

  • Enlargement

  • Reflection.
